UPDATE: Oh, someone else is not amused. Look who weighed in …with whatever-the-opposite-of-an-endorsement-is …

Sorry Ivan, snipped.
I have a low tolerance for smart-arse remarks about Judith Collins and especially her body.
It’s not fair — she has put her name (and image) on the line, so to speak, and you haven’t.
Femme fatale is not a comment about her body merely her persona … and i am only responding to your reposting or posting (in the public arena) of her and her comments. She has chosen to (and is paid to) be in politics and in the public arena … its not an act of heroism … its a deliberate choice.
You are behaving in a soviet manner Peter … nothing smartarse about it .. and no less smartarse than your clear and premeditated decision to post the issues you have … about Ms Collins …
Fairs fair mate …
Have you seen her body … if so can i have the negatives please …
Leave the misogyny for those weird abusive blogs..there’s no place for it.
And isn’t Cameron the gift that just keeps giving ?…a schadenfreude episode of large proportions…..so much, that I am actually starting to feel sorry for him.
Cheers Ratty. Yes, I don’t like attacks based on people’s appearance.
But marketing statements and public tongue-lashings of a Baldrick-type (“Quite seriously, Jordan, that’s irresponsible and I expect better from you. Hope you don’t run your cases like that.”) are fair game.
For the record, I don’t think it’s rude to highlight Mrs Collins’ [at times] imperious, schoolmarmish manner. I’ve never intentionally tried to ‘savage’ her, and as I pointed out here
… I acknowledge Mrs Collins’ courage (not just hers, naturally) in offering herself for election.
Saying “Vote for me” takes guts, so does working in the political environment — rejection, failure, and frustrated ambition are an ever-present possibility — indeed, they’re on the other side of that coin. That’s politics.
If anything, it’s tougher for women politicians since, whatever age they are, they are burdened with a load of judgement about their ‘appearance’ that blokes don’t have.
As a citizen, I will question and, at times, mock what a politician says, but their body image is off-limits. For me, anyway.
Best wishes – P
You still savage her and you and ratty wilfully misinterpret my comments as something they are not … and you dont have the courage to confront my rebuttals of your censorship. Neither are my comments removed from moderation. You say she is “schoolmarmish” and that this is fair game.
You dont play fair … you and ratty both. Ratty should re examine what misogyny actually is. For the guidebook read the epistles of St Paul or consult my other published works.
Lets see where this now goes mate … to moderation and the black hole … or will it see the light of day
And i say again … where have i alluded to her appearance or body … is it any worse than your allusions … schoolmarm … calling her “your majesty” … is that not also misogynistic as per rattys ill informed blurtings.
I described her as “femme fatale” .. this is a legitimate observation …
To me this is even more alarming that the quite bizarre accusations from you and swiss cheese guy that i was being “anti semitic” because i made reference to the character “fagan” from the musical Oliver and the music line “you’ve gotta pick a pocket or two…
And Ratty … can i ask you to self examine your expressed delight in this chap Cameron … and his statements etc and your very ‘clever’ and admirable use of such de rigeur terms as “schadenfreude” … i can already smell the ponsonby latte aroma of superiority.
Wierd – abusive blogs …. let me direct you to or counsel you and Peter both, to closely examine the elegant phrasing of much of the posted content under the Aranyi byline on this blog … and look beyond the twistings and turnings of same and i would then ask you to be honest enough to see that some people merely dress their abuse and weirdness up in other clothes … that may appear more respectable – but are merely what they are … an elegantly crafted minuet that does the same damage. Just more tastefully perhaps … but same intent and result.
Mercy Triumphs over Judgement mate … and its high time some of the high minded and self righteous saw that reality face to face.
Something about Beams and Motes springs to mind ..
Hi Ivan, sorry I couldn’t respond to your concerns quicker, I’ve been 10 pin bowling with my kids this afternoon (headed for laser strike but it was too heavily booked) then, sadly, my daughter’s phone was stolen by some brazen kid who cased us out over a period of about 15 minutes, then swooped in like a vulture and grabbed it from her momentarily unattended bag — right next us … Ger-rump!!
Anyway, please don’t take it so hard — as I told you I snipped your earlier reference to Mrs Collins (‘in a tutu’) and I also didn’t think your ‘joke’ re the Nutcracker suite was something I wanted on my website.
I don’t think you’re a misogynist, Ivan, not really, nor an anti-semite, or I wouldn’t give you the time of day. But we all (me included) can sometimes misjudge what others might see as appropriate.
As we have discussed before, I’m responsible for the ‘tone’ and the ‘ecology’ of The Paepae, I’m the one whose name is at the top of the page, while you post comments here (and are very welcome to do so) under a pseudonym.
All those factors mean while I’m happy to hear your reasons and arguments, well … the buck stops with me.
Best wishes, – P
I am absolutely annoyed with you over this Peter and make no mistake about it. I can test the boundaries i know … but i’ve been slated before and now for things that are your misinterpretation and not my intent.
I’ve made the nutcracker suite allusion before and you’ve actively laughed at and endorsed it … its madames reputation as a hardnosed ballbreaker. Thats how she presents herself and she capitalises on it in the media … it is downright unethical and reprehensible that you then censure me after describing said individual as “her majesty” etc etc. If you wish to be schizophrenic and doubleminded then put a tag on your posts to that effect.
Then i get highminded ponces like ratty referring to my “misogynistic tendencies” and frankly fuck him – or her.
I always try ( not always successfully ) to take my lead from the tone of your post … and i have to admit you are a bit like an exhibit of “out there” modern art .. “hmm now let me see … is this an allusion to the subtle rise and fall of the contours of dirty dishes … or is this a deeper and more meaningful reference to philosophical questions about the effects of tight underwear…”
Jeez Peter … by the time i’ve read your posts i’m ready for a cup of tea and a lie down … if i was a druggie i’d also do a line to mellow out afterward.
What i say and write here … is NOT a reflection on you or your blog. I am merely a commenter …. a squatter. Refute me … but please for Christs sake (meant correctly) dont snip me and then leave portions and your pontifications for others to draw conclusions from.
I’m really very pissed off with you … i’m here because i enjoy the interaction … i am an acquired taste i know … and to many i may well be anathema … but isnt it time someone showed the way in terms of inclusiveness and true communication.
I hate your music, your cars, your trousers and indeed your bloody technology. But i like your blog. Now stop bloody being mean to me.
Or i will hold my breath and turn purple.
“Jeez Peter … by the time i’ve read your posts i’m ready for a cup of tea and a lie down … if i was a druggie i’d also do a line to mellow out afterward.”
Yeah, I’m sorry about that.
It really is too much to expect consistency on such things … I operate what I’ve come to see (or think of) as a moody ‘Turkey Timer’ (remember those? A probe thrust into centre of the turkey would pop out when the temperature inside the bird indicated it was cooked. Ingenious!) Sometimes an otherwise innocuous remark, given the ambience, just tips a scale. Nothing scientific about it — more like a ‘sniff test’… what I refer to as ‘tone’.
In the circumstances, I promise not to be mean to you.
Cool … i always regarded those turkey timer ads as vaguely sexually suggestive (in an unnamed politician sort of manner) with all that aggressive thrusting out of the flesh as it were … coupled with the ads for a certain deodorant with a phallic shape as well … the 80’s was a racy time for a young player.
I think your sniff test is flawed … its not benchmarked as such against your own posts and their “tone” as such.
I am sure you wont be mean to me … holding my breath is not the most pleasant thing to behold.
“I always regarded those turkey timer ads as vaguely sexually suggestive”
Oh yes, me too. Unquestionably. Soft focus, steamy close-up of glistening golden roast turkey. Unmistakable meaning.
And you have the gall to call me a smartass … for goodness sake Peter … its a phallic shape thrusting up out of a mound of flesh … or am i missing something.
It “came” (in the TV Ad) complete with sound effects suggesting an eruption of biblical proportions.
You obviously dont subscribe to the same sky channels that i do
And my greatest sympathies to your beloved Daughter … buggers will steal anything not nailed down these days …
Thanks. Yeah. Not a good experience for her.
Oh this is just too funny. Slater trying to publicly humiliate his lawyer – who is no longer his lawyer – because he can’t afford to pay him.
And stop lying Ratty. I don’t believe for a second that you are feeling sorry for him.
Haven’t read Ivan’s comments. I can’t stop laughing.
Frankly i’m totally lost … i didnt even twig someone was trying to publicly humiliate his lawyer …. jots and tittles … this Tweet language is beyond my limited abilities of comprehension …
Refer to the comment in the red box in the post above. The context you need is that Jordan Williams was Cameron Slater’s lawyer for a while in the defamation proceedings referred to here:
.. and, despite Jordan writing what I thought was a reasonably persuasive submission arguing that Cameron Slater should be entitled to the same limited ‘source’ protection afforded a journalist (yeah, seriously), Judge Blackie found against him.
Judge Blackie, it should be remembered, unlike his critics, has had the opportunity to read the full ‘content’ of Cameron Slater’s protracted negative and abusive campaign against the plaintiff — who has represented himself in the litigation so far.
Hence Cameron Slater publicly slagging off Jordan Williams, at the time a solicitor with Ogilvie Franks … just after Mrs Collins had also expressed a lack of confidence in Jordan’s lawyering ability (“What kind of lawyer…?”, “Hope you don’t run your cases like that”) as a result of his ‘gone soft’ tweet.
Funny, with pathos.
Bloody femme fatales … they come in both sexes obviously …
Thanks for the update … i missed it completely mainly because i really dont give a shit i suppose.
What some people choose to do for excitement in their lives
“I hate your music, your cars, your trousers and indeed your bloody technology. But i like your blog. Now stop bloody being mean to me.
Or i will hold my breath and turn purple.”
Hahaha! This has been the funniest comment thread.
Ivan – for what it’s worth – i too have previously been “snipped” (for commenting on David Farrar’s appearance) so don’t feel bad and please breathe.
It’s nothing personal.
Stink about your daughter’s phone Peter. My son had his PSP stolen off him by rugrats while at an Xbox event at Aotea Square a few years ago. He loved that machine. Injustice is something we all want to protect our kids from and it sucks when we can’t do that.
Hope she is not too bummed out.
Yeah, she was surprised, bewildered, then later … angry.
It’s horrible being targeted so deliberately, and stolen from, so she’s working through that.
We won’t see that iPhone again, I don’t think.
Very inconvenient timing since she’s on a bus tonight to Wellington with a friend for The Hobbit movie premiere, and catching up with my god daughter who’s like a sister to her. So I called Vodafone and got her a new SIM card with her number & account credits transferred to it … and a new dumb phone … within an hour.
She immediately used the Facebook app on my phone to let her friends know about the theft and asking them all to send her a text with their name so she could rebuild her address book … so she’s been inundated with texts of sympathy and support from her pals.
Just one of those things. Could’ve been worse. The thief looked about 13-14. Hate to think what future he has if he’s stealing iPhones at this age. What will he ‘graduate’ to next, eh?
Well Jackie .. at time Peter is like dealing with an unruly teenager and he needs a good un PC slap around the chops for good measure.
I know its not personal … he just pisses me off bigtime and he should be made to suffer for it.
I would say that Mr Farrars voice is the most disturbing aspect of his persona. Does that count as a snippable offence in the neo fascist Paepae state??
My apologies Ivan.
My comment wasn’t aimed at you… my apologies for the misunderstanding
No worries Ratty … i was a little sensitive and volatile at the time … I’ve been wrongly pigeonholed before on this blog and in real life as well. I’ve never been what one might describe as politically correct.
[…] fail miserably in my communications from time to time (as some people are wont to point out here now and then, bless them), but I try to (a) be consistent — the same person in all situations, which […]
